When shutdown, SP2 for Windows XP inspects whether all important Windows-Updates have installed or not. If there is an error, shutdown problem will occur and bluescreen appears with ‘STOP : 0×80248-011′ report. If so, you must update database of all relevant infos about update that have installed.

To overcome it, click ‘Start|Run’ and type ’service.msc’. In ‘Service’ window, right click ‘Automatic Updates’ and choose ‘Stop’. Now run Windows Explorer and enter folder Windows. Change folder name ‘Software Distribution’ to ‘SoftwareDistribution.alt’. After that, run again ‘Auto-Update’ service. It will make new folder named ‘SofwareDistribution’. The old folder that you have changed its name can be deleted.
